Giuliani and Edwards are dropping out. That leaves us with Corporate Dems (a moderate and a DLC) and about the same amount of insanity on the Republican side as we've seen before, but now the far right will only be split two ways (and Huckabee is no longer a media doll, so we're probably going to see 98% of the far right voting for Romney).
This article about "Why Edwards never caught on" really bothers me. There's no mention of the media, which really controls the primaries even more than the elections. Basically, it says that Obama is to 2008 what Edwards was to 2004. Except that Edwards in '04 actually had policies. And Edwards in '04 had years more experience than Obama in '08. And Edwards in '04 AND '08 actually talks about poor people, labor issues, healthcare...
Anyway, end of rant. I'm looking forward to Tuesday. And even more to Feb 17 (when I "move house")!

Democratic Leadership Council (www.dlc.org). Wikipedia says (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Leadership_Council):
The Democratic Leadership Council is a non-profit corporation [1] that argues that the United States Democratic Party should shift away from traditionally populist positions. The DLC hails President Clinton as proof of the viability of third way politicians and as a DLC success story while progressives assert that Bill Clinton won campaigning as a populist only to abandon those positions after getting elected. Critics contend that the DLC is effectively a powerful, corporate-financed mouthpiece within the Democratic party that acts to keep Democratic Party candidates and platforms sympathetic to corporate interests and the interests of the wealthiest one percent.

ah, yes. thank you for the leg work!

Are you going to vote in the primary or general election? I'm a Kucinich man at heart, with a few policy exceptions. I can't stand the Dems left standing in this election, and of course the republicans are equally monstrous or worse. What are your thoughts? I mostly don't like Obama's policies regarding queer issues, his lack of policies on race relations and/or targeted specifically to aid people of color, and I especially dislike his immigration policies. I much more strongly dislike Hillary's policies across the board but in particular her economic policies and international policies. What a hot mess we're in with these candidates!

I refuse to vote for people I don't believe in. It'd be far better for me to register as a republican and vote for a loony-tunes character.

Well.... Kucinich is out, but Gravel is still in the race. He's a decent protest vote.
I might write in Russ Feingold. Obama is less bad than Clinton, though, and it'd be nice to have a man in the white house for a change ;)

the media in general is annoying me in this race. they seem to put a lot of articles and almost no content out. debates about race, gender, haircuts, and homestates, less discussion of positions on issues.
the only place i've found those is by searching the candidates websites. which makes the media useless at best.

I also want to say that the talk about gender and race in the media has been totally inane. The systemic/color-blind/institutional racism and systemic and institutional patriarchy has led to meaningless, media-driven discourse on these issues in such a way that it avoids the critical and salient points of the very issues the articles or televised talks are purporting to analyze!

If you want to talk about race, let's talk about race, racism, white privilege, etc. If you want to talk about gender, let's talk about different waves of feminism, backlash, and patriarchy. Not everyone needs to embrace my politics or values, but at least let's cut to what we personally see as the heart of the issue. Further let's make more than superficial connections to broader trends among demographics in our society.

This is why I rely on Rolling Stone for political news. It's much better than their music stuff. Matt Taibbi is awesome
