I was raised in New Jersey, spent time studying in Beijing, and DC, where I currently live.
I'm a halakhically-driven Jew who finds more support for his pre-existing political beliefs the more he understands his religion. I keep shabbat and kashrut, and find that there's a Torahic mandate to actively create a shelter for holiness in the world, and another mandate that's at least Rabbinic to find wonder in everything around you. I think that Israel's relationship with G-d is based on mitzvot along with morals and saying either one alone is missing the point.
