I was intending to make baked potatoes with steamed greens last night. However, the potatoes were pretty hard on the inside and i couldn't salvage much of them. I then decided to add black beans and shell pasta.
Before I steamed to greens, I saw an onion on the counter, so I steamed half of that, too. Apparently, gently steaming onions makes them taste terrible. The greens were beginning to wilt even though I just bought them on Sunday at the farmers' market. I think it's a type of kale, but when I steamed it, it got a buttery flavor. Anyway, I tried to cover up the bad taste of the onions mixed with greens and I didn't have lemon juice. I added olive oil, salt, and then too much white vinegar. It was TERRIBLE! So I started digging through the spices. Black pepper. Didn't help much. Then I randomly picked up a small jar. Pumpkin Pie Spice. Well, I couldn't make it taste any WORSE, and cinnamon works well with a lot of things. I added Pumpkin Pie Spice. I carefully tasted it... And it was actually decent! I added more and it was better! I wouldn't say I'd ever make this again, but Pie Spice was my dinner's saviour. And British.
