Save the West End Library
Jul. 27th, 2007 03:02 pmPlease sign this petition to stop the "emergency" sale of public land including a fire station and library to a large developer. There's more information on a local news site, among other places.
One thing the below text does not note is that the VP of the development company, EastBanc, is married to the DC Attorney General.
My friend:
I am writing to you today to let you know about an injustice I seek your help in fighting.
On July 10, the DC City Council passed an "emergency" resolution selling the property rights to a library, police-station, and firehouse in the West End neighborhood. All of these places are currently operating.
Many folks in that neighborhood are angry about this deal and so am I because:
1) there was little public input if any at all,
2) the local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners were not notified of this "emergency" resolution until it was passed,
3) the West End Library Friends group didn't approve of the deal, and
4) it is a no-bid contract with a wealthy developer named EastBanc -- which has known ties to City administrators.
I am asking you to help put a stop to this nonsense and demand the Council kill this deal until further public input is had and a competitive bidding process is approved of. You can do this by signing the petition at >>

Let's demand more from our City leadership, please sign it today >>

Thank you for your time!
