First, the Whole Foods scandal. This touches a nerve with me because it's exactly the person who my good friend who went from anarchist to "moral capitalist" in three years was defending as a righteous and moral character who has an entrepreneurial instinct. "I've met John Mackey, and I know he cares deeply about vegetarianism and the environment." Well, apparently he cares more about corporate acquisition.
Second, the gifting of public lands to a development corporation in DC's West End. Because we all need more condos and fewer libraries, right? And the public's opinion is irrelevant for this type of "emergency measure". I'm going to this meeting tonight to hear what's going on. I'm kinda happy to be getting involved with local politics again since that's really where most change happens.

WF has been trying to buy Wild Oats (WO), a competitor. The FTC claims it's monopolistic. Ok, that's normal business and not terribly interesting.
However, John Mackey, CEO, recently admitted that he has been posting to financial blogs for a while under a pseudonym and bashing WO - questioning their share price worth, business model, and effectively working to destroy their investor confidence and lower their stock price (making the takeover cheaper and, for WO, more necessary). Very shady.
