So in my random craigslist hunts, in which I search for a housing ad that says "kosher" and find [livejournal.com profile] alanscottevil's house (which is lovely but not for me), I put in the wrong section (for sale) and got the following:
Wanted: Large Breed Dog--not kosher
First, I thought it was someone looking for a dog and was specifying that they didn't want a hotdog, so I read the ad, amused, and found it

Wanted: Large Breed Dog--not kosher

Good grief, not this scam AGAIN? This person has posted so many different variations on the reason why she needs a BIG dog (anxiety attacks, panic attacks, walking for her health), and none of them are kosher. She names specific breeds, which is the big red flag--why won't she take a mixed breed?

In one of her other postings, she had a personal e-mail address which was the same an an address mentioned by another poster who said she gave a dog to this lady and later saw it for sale.

Don't give this person a dog, please. If she was legit, she could go to a shelter and qualify to adopt one--shelters are always dying for people to adopt the big dogs. But she is not kosher, so they won't adopt to her.

If she can only afford a $50 adoption fee, how is she going to afford the amount of food needed for, say, a St. Bernard? Or the vetting and alteration needed for a puppy?

BEWARE. Read all pet "wanted" ads very carefully. With all the rescues and shelters out there, and with Petfinder, it is hard to imagine why a legitimate adopter would need to advertise for a dog on craigslist.

I live in the DaleCity are and I am not able to travel far so please unless you can deliver, or you live close dont respond to my request. I am hoping to find a large breed dog, my doctors have stated that I need to do lots of walking due to some health problems I am having. I want a dog as a walking companion. Must be calm dog, prefer it to be female, must get along with small dogs & children. I have been unemployed for a while so can't afford more than $50 as an adoption fee. Please if you have the right dog email me information on your dog and some pictures. It can be an adult or a puppy that can be trained to walk with me. I would like something like a golden retriver, rotti, chow, husky, saintbernard, german sheppard etc.....

Really weird. I hate people abusing charity. Really do. The responder made some good points - especially how the "I can't afford it" argument is stupid. Anyway, it's disturbing to me that people are not genuine.

it always confuses me for a moment when i see/hear someone use the word kosher in a not-technical-jewish sense.

this whole breed thing- people breed dogs and cats and horses, but creep out at the idea of genetically selecting children. anyway I'm an unapologetic mutt fan-the dog i grew up with was a pound puppy, and despite some apparent childhood trauma (she was terrified of water and traffic cones) you wouldnt find a sweeter or weirder dog.

Ahhhh! This is what you were saying on im. I think I misunderstood. Anyway... Yeah, breeds are weird. Mutts are good.
