Okay, so New Year's was awesome. The trip to Montréal (I just like typing the ALT+0233) went off with hitches, but nothing really bad. This is going to be a long entry, but i promised Steph ([livejournal.com profile] erelysa) that I would post this, so here goes.

(This journal entry spans multiple entries to conserve your bandwidth!)

The plan was to meet in Iselin, NJ at the train station Metropark at 2:30. Brian's train arrived at 2:00, so I was planning on showing up like around 2:15 or so, so we could head right out once Adam got there. Anyway, I get a call saying that Brian missed his train because the LIRR was a few mins late so he'd have to wait for the next one at 3:00. Oh well, so we waited around for a bit more til his car showed up. At about this time, I realized I should have packed The Hobbit which I'm in the middle of rereading.

Home to the train station

Now we head off on the long dusty trail called the Garden State Parkway (which isn't really dusty at all) and up to I-87 which will be the bulk of the journey. I'm sitting in the bitch-seat with my brother to the right and Brian to the left. Adam is driving (he's the only one who can), and his girlfriend, Anjuli is sitting passenger seat. These seats remain until we drop Brian off at the end of the trip. I give directions with Brian helping, and Juli controls the music while my brother talks about Russian and Adam gets nervous. All this is also the same for the whole trip. We got to a reststop in upstate New York that looked everything like a reststop in upstate should look like - steeply sloping roof, blue siding, hicks with mullets. Anyway, we picked up some discount hotel guides and a map of Albany and headed out again until nightfall. Brian started calling hotels in the guidebook and we settled on the Red Carpet Inn because it was cheap with the coupon ($36/room) and close to the road. The place was fine, and had a good japanese/korean restaurant next door, so we ate there. I had salad with yummy ginger dressing and hibachi salmon! Brian, David and I then went across the street to the gas station to grab a deck of cards (and some hard cola which is not that good). The five of us played cards for a while and then went to bed. On the country music station, they asked country music stars what their New Year's resolutions were. One said, "My resolution for 2003 is definitely to sell more records." Hahahah!
