Sukkot in Balt
Oct. 21st, 2005 12:39 pmBaltimore was awesome for the first days of sukkot. Perfect weather. Wonderful people. Interesting shul. All in all, fantastic.
People: Stayed with Yaakov and Dede with Alan, Aaron, Beverly and Anna. Yay hippie Jews :) It rocked a lot. I like these people and am glad I have gotten to know them. You gotta love a sukkah made of hippie tapestries.
Shul: Tiferes Yisrael, aka, Goldberger's. Nusach Sephard. Most of the congregation wears black hats, a handful of modern orth, and then a smaller handful of strommel-wearers. I counted at least 5 types of haberdashery on the men's side (not counting knit, leather, and suede kippot). Good diversity...well, for an orthodox shul. Oh yeah, and the woman's section is separated with a short wall, glass, and a drop cloth. Apparently you can't see the Torah from there.
A lot of walking throughout Pikesville. A lot. But it was fun.
PS. Why is fish a vegetable?
PPS. You shouldn't drink water on Friday or Tuesday nights because of demons, but if you need to, you should first say "Shiriri-biri-iri-i-iri, I desire water in white cups." (Babylonian Talmud...maybe Berachot?)
