Employment
Jun. 7th, 2003 11:28 pmSo I have a job. I am still floating a bit, that is -> looking for a place in which to live and a crowd with which to chill and a shul to which to go. basically i'm on a which hunt. Ha! I kill me!
(Name the quote and win a prize)
anyway, so my job. Community Organizer in Philadelphia ACORN. It's my job to organize low-income families to fight the system and get the government and corporations working for them. Basically, enforce
Hence, according to Quizilla, my political affiliation is:

The Few The Proud The COMMUNIST!

It's amusing how RED the entire staff is. What other office's clock has the words "Time for a Revolution" taped to the face?? People there are hardcore and know it. So five days a week I'm in South Philly organizing the people there to fight for change, and then one day I go into the burbs to apply liberal guilt to the bourg to fund a class revolution. interesting stuff. honestly, though, most of the funding comes from the low income families themselves who pay monthly membership dues.
I find that my politics have become more radical in just the one week i've worked there. how am i supposed to function in normal society anymore?? i guess it's okay, though, because the job takes up the vast majority of my days and nights, and a large part of my energy. Thank HaShem for Shabbat!
Speaking of which, spent this one not very restfully. In fact, i had to work, and take money from the rich folk. including rich jews. that bothered me. i shouldn't have had to ask jews observing shavuos and then shabbat (which i wanted to observe) to make business deals. damn, that pissed me off. anyway, starting next week, i will do my canvassing on sundays and i will have a day of rest to myself! (and to G-d)
hmmm. what else can i say? it's really awesome and rewarding work and i really like the attitude the whole office takes into the field. even when canvassing, we're not begging for money, just fixing a problem of wealth distribution that obviously sucks. It's also kinda nice not to have to argue things politically even though the job is so political. the only arguments i get into are with potential members and its mostly to convince them its the system that sucks, not the blacks (as one woman thinks) or the section 8 renters (as many think). damnit, we need to institutionalize an educational system that focuses on larger pictures. england fought against the colonies in 1776 because of mercantilism. that also caused spain to lose its power and wealth and reinforced european naitonalism. big picture.
right, so that's that. Just found out two things that piss me off enough to write out.
1. US Defense Intelligence Agency leaked that America did not have proof of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Powell says in front of the UN that we have the locations of these hidden weapons and Bush lies to us and the rest of the world, and there is no attempt at impeachment. That is high treason. Risking (and losing) American lives, lying to the world on America's behalf and lying outright to the American public. horrible stuff, and there's no allegations against the administration
2. But, the House of Reps ratified an anti-flag-desecration law. They hate our freedoms, so let's take 'em away. Burn those flags. send the flames high into the night. use them to wipe your ass, too, cuz America no longer stands for the land of the free or the beacon of democracy. not that i really thought it ever did, but what a fucking joke it's become.
