Hug Dealing on Dupont Circle

So nosockstorock and I were hanging out on Dupont Circle on Monday and a youngish woman walks by with a bright yellow posterboard sign. On the sign was written:

FREE
HUGS

I point to show nosockstorock, who says, "Hey, are you serious?" "Of course," the hug-dealer says. At which point nosockstorock and I get up, walk over, and get our hugs. We look around and there are 10-15 other people lined up to get their free hugs, too. It was very cool and almost magical! Especially for a city like DC where people are pretty removed from strangers. Thank you hug lady! (I wonder what it was for)

it's hugs for hugs sake. I'm not sure where it started, but people do it randomly in places. a friend of mine has been done it, in CP I think.
